Introduction

With the basic aim of addressing the widespread educational need of the society and to induce rapid and sustainable economic and social development, the government of Ethiopia is making an effort to expand the number of higher educational institutions that provide various academic disciplines/fields and specializations to the rapidly growing number of students. With such a massive expansion of higher education, the number of students enrolling in various higher educational institutions in the country specifically in the areas of Accounting and finance, Economics, Management and Public administration and development management is increasing to meet the growing demand for such professionals in the public, private ,and non governmental institutions. In this regard, the professional and managerial expertise of graduates with adequate knowledge in the areas of business and economics is vital for formulating and implementing development strategies and policies, among other things, that can significantly contribute to the economic progress of the economy. With this basic understanding, Dilla University has launched a new program, Faculty of Business and Economics (School of Business and Economics after 2002 E.C.), in the year 1999 E.C. The School (formerly, Faculty of Business and Economics) was established with a total number of --- students, --- academic staffs and --- supportive staff members. Under the school there are a total of four programs namely, Economics, Accounting and Finance, Management, and Public administration and development management.

The objectives of School of Business and Economics include,

  1. i.Contribute towards achieving the university’s vision, mission, goals and objectives
  2. ii.To produce competent and skilled manpower in the fields of accounting and finance, economics, management, and Public administration and development management that can help the country in promoting the various development endeavors,  
  3. iii.Undertaking researches that will address societal problem and adds to the existing state of knowledge
  4. iv. providing community service such as consultancy and training services on areas which are deemed to be vital for building the capacity of workers of various organizations
